The role

We like to keep our software engineers on their toes. As one of the team, you’ll work across our entire technology platform. You might be building a new feature one day and tweaking performance or learning a new technology the next. You’ll be working on a team who are constantly challenging the status quo, as we continue to push technology forward in the arts sector.

You are

· Passionate about engineering novel and elegant solutions to complex problems.

· Fearless when it comes to trying new technologies and techniques.

· Obsessed with performance and reliability.

· Excited by test driven development, automation and continuous integration.

Your main responsibilities will include

· Understanding functional specifications and providing technical feedback.

· Working closely with our UX team and Senior Engineers to develop technical specifications for new features.

· Implementing system software components, their tests and automation framework.

· Ensuring that production code is efficient, easy to maintain and adheres to OO principals and company policy.

· Refactoring areas of the code that need improving.

· Implementing tests for areas of code that do not have coverage.

· Helping extend and enhance our data import tools.

· Investigating and learning new technologies as appropriate.

You should also

· Have a good degree in a relevant discipline (e.g. Engineering, Physics, Computer Science etc.).

· Demonstrate a systematic and analytical approach to problem solving.

· Have excellent technical communication skills.

· Have an understanding of web applications.

· Have an understanding of web technologies and protocols (http, html, css, javascript, rest).

· Have a thorough understanding of object oriented programming principles, techniques and patterns.

Our technologies

Our product is based on the Microsoft stack and we use all the following technologies: C# 4.0, including LINQ, lambda expressions and generic types; the Unity dependency injection framework; ASP.NET, user controls, dynamic controls and Microsoft AJAX controls; the Less CSS compiler; WCF; the Prototype and script.aculo.us JavaScript frameworks; NHibernate; SQL Server 2012; NUnit and NMock; Jenkins for CI; JIRA for bug tracking; Git for version control.
