Product Owner

You will be working for Ocado as Product Owner

On the surface, we are the world’s largest online-only grocery retailer. Customers use our award winning mobile applications and website to place their orders, which are packed in our world-class automated warehouse, and delivered in one hour time slots.

Look under the surface however, and you will unearth a dynamic technology company that has the look, feel and culture of an innovative software start-up. That’s because we develop all the software that powers Ocado, in-house. From the real time control systems that drive our automated warehouse, and sophisticated route optimisation software, to our robotics, 3D vision systems and the complex algorithms embedded in our inference engines.

We currently seek a Product Owner responsible for managing the product backlog, benefit analysis, minimum viable product, prioritisation, acceptance criteria and reviewing completed work. The main purpose of this role is envisioning the future of internal systems and working with stakeholders, development teams and users to realise it. The environment is one of Agile Development with Scrum based teams and high focused approach to constant delivery of high value, working software.

Job Requirements

Developing product vision and strategy, which may include reselling our solutions to third parties.
Building strong relationships with business users and stakeholders.
Developing a deep understanding of the business uses and potential of our internal software products.
Exploring new avenues for monetizing our software assets.
Understanding business requirements and communicating them to software development teams.
Release management.
Contributing to the technical direction of the product
Maximising business value.
Assisting in building business cases.
Product backlog management, including defining user stories and prioritisation.
Balancing tactical and strategic priorities.
Liaising with development teams order to communicate business requirements and judge acceptance criteria for work.
Participating in technical release planning.
Assisting development teams in estimation.
Monitoring progress and making adjustments based on strategic goals.

Candidate Requirements

Essential

2:1 or First class degree (or equivalent) in from a good university.
Strong A-levels including A (or equivalent) in Maths, Physics, Further Maths or Computing.
Experience of Agile software development methodologies, for example Scrum or XP.
Excellent communication skills.
Strong business skills.
An understanding and appreciation for software development and design, solid technical skillset.

Desirable

A strong track record in the retail, e-commerce or commercial software development sectors.
Strong technical skills and an analytic mind set.
Previous experience in a Product Development role
Track record delivering high quality software that meets business need in a timely fashion.
Experience in estimating the value of software features, and in cost-benefit analysis and constructing business cases.
Experience of managing a product backlog
