Crowdcube is hiring

Lead Front-End Engineer

You will be working for Crowdcube as Lead Front-End Engineer

Crowdcube is the world's leading equity crowdfunding platform. We enable everyday investors to invest alongside Europe’s leading venture capitalists and professional investors in start-up, early stage and growth businesses; in doing so we're enabling entrepreneurs to raise funds for their businesses through our platform. We have experienced year on year growth since 2011 and 2015 has been the best year to date! We have over 240,000 registered users and just shy of half of those signed up in 2015. Over 400 British businesses have successfully funded on the platform in that time. And we are backed by leading investors Balderton Capital, Numis and Draper Esprit.

We are hiring a Lead Front-End Engineer with exceptional technical skills and experience of leading a team of engineers to deliver high quality, robust software solutions for all of our users.

What we are doing:

We have just completed the migration of the platform to AWS and are now ready to redevelop our platform from the ground up to be a fully tested, extensible and reliable application capable of supporting the continued incredible growth of Crowdcube. Our existing platform is primarily PHP/Nginx/MySQL but we are advocates of using the right tools for the right job. We run Ruby, Python, Golang and many others for solving specific problems. We introduced a RESTful API earlier this year to power our entire platform: internal services, back office, mobile app and potentially 3rd party products. Our tech stack is constantly evolving to incorporate new ideas that keep us right on the bleeding edge.

Our engineers work in small feature teams, each focused on a specific area of the business with a product manager. The engineering lead on that project and the product manager become partners in crime, working alongside other engineers and designers on one project at a time from inception through to shipping.

Ideally you will:

Have extensive experience of delivering extremely high quality software solutions and will contribute to multiple technologies and product lines across the company. You will be actively involved in architecture and process improvements and will be expected to propose well thought out, viable options for ongoing advancements of the platform. A deep understanding of the impact that decisions and choices in direction have on other teams in engineering is crucial. You will also be responsible for influencing and mentoring a team of engineers as well as encouraging them to pursue opportunities for personal development. It's the opportunity to have a lasting impact on our platform and a positive impact on your team and the wider engineering department.

Tools and stack:

  • XHTML, HTML5, CSS3 and Javascript, Javascript frameworks, CSS pre/post processors
  • Development and use of JSON and Restful APIs.
  • Gulp, Webpack or other build tools.
  • Basic knowledge of Git version control.
  • Cross browser and device development and testing.

What we are offering:

We like to nurture talent and want to ensure members of our team keep developing and honing their skills. As such we offer subscriptions to online courses for instance with dedicated study time, as well as actively support participation in hackathons and conferences. We believe in using the right tools for the job and that may involve spending time learning them along the way. We’re a growing team and we’re a passionate hard working team but we also like to take care of our team:

  • We provide our engineers with their choice of am engineer-spec Mac/Windows/Linux laptop.
  • Competitive salary
  • We also offer 25 days holiday each year.
  • Pension Scheme
  • Private Medical Scheme
  • Life Insurance Scheme
  • Cycle to Work Scheme
  • Company perks such as juices, fruit and of course office pizzas and beers (Or cider)

The Company

Why work for us:

Our core values are centered around our customers, challenging the norm and being entrepreneurial which means we believe in hiring people with passion, willing to listen and learn, people with new and creative ideas, who aren’t afraid to voice their views, roll their sleeves up, and come up with the right solutions to ensure the job gets done. Oh and we should probably highlight that we never forget to celebrate a job well done, so the mandatory shout, cheer and celebratory boogie around the office has been known to occur once the good news train hits Crowdcube HQ.

And yes we operate in the financial services space but that doesn't mean we wear suits…

We're a dynamic, creative and ambitious bunch who enjoy team camping trips, BBQs, outdoor sports, pilates, table football tournaments, competing in events like Rock Solid and Kartfight, and of course indulging in the occasional beer or cider. Families are always welcome at our offices in Exeter, London, Cardiff, Manchester and Spain.

About us:

Well we are the world’s leading equity crowdfunding platform and we enable anyone to invest alongside professional investors in start-up, early stage and growth businesses. In doing so we're enabling entrepreneurs to raise funds for their businesses through our platform. We are also backed by leading investors Balderton Capital, Numis and Draper Esprit and we have experienced year on year growth since 2011. 2015 was our best year yet and it's only going to get better.
